SCLD launches Early Years report

Web AdminNews item

The Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities (SCLD) has today launched our report into early learning provision for children with learning disabilities, Building Blocks: Exploring the barriers and facilitators to Early Learning and childcare for children with learning disabilities in Scotland.

The report is being launched as part of Scottish Learning Disability Week 2022, the them of which is “We all have human rights!”

As part of the research for the report, a series of interviews were conducted with parents and guardians of children with learning disabilities, who shared their experiences of accessing Early Learning and childcare.

The Scottish Government is clear in its ambition that all children get the best possible start in life; while some parents told us they had a very positive experience of Early Years education, the overall picture from this research is one where, despite the best of intentions, we are simply not getting it right for children with learning disabilities.
