Hi! My name is Rachel and I’m SCLD’s Administration and Compliance Officer. Having only started this role last month, I am learning the ways of my role here at SCLD, supporting the team with their projects and leading my own tasks. The team at SCLD are very lovely, and I feel very welcomed to the team.

When I spotted the vacancy for my role, I knew I had to apply. I was drawn to SCLD’s values of being respectful, inclusive, collaborative and pioneering as they align directly with my own.

So far in my role, I have applied my skills and knowledge to a something a little different for me and I have loved doing so. I thrive in situations that might not be straightforward, or where I may need to learn something new, like a new platform, or software, or practice. I’ve found my time at SCLD so far to be very rewarding, in pushing me to learn new things in a new environment.

Outside my role at SCLD, I work as an illustrator and creative. In my creative work, my passion for inclusivity and accessibility has always been my driving factor. I started my creative work with a focus on sexual health, as a topic that is often stigmatised and inaccessible to learn about.

Over the last couple of years, I worked on creating an easy-read image bank with Brook, a sexual health charity. Working on this project really opened my eyes to the world of accessible, easy-read information and emphasised the importance of inclusive practice in my work. Since starting at SCLD, I’ve had the chance to explore the creation of easy read text, formatting, and image selection.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my friends and my partner, watching films and TV shows, going out for drinks, hosting dinner parties, going to gigs, and cooking yummy meals.

I am looking forward to settling further into my role here at SCLD and contributing to the wonderful work of our organisation.
