What is a learning disability?

A learning disability is significant and lifelong. It starts before adulthood and affects the person’s development.  This means that a person with a learning disability will likely need help to understand information, learn skills and have a fulfilling life.  Some people with a learning disability also have healthcare needs and require support to communicate.

I can’t get the nomination form to open!

To complete our nomination form you will need software which can open a PDF document. We advise using Adobe Reader; you can download Adobe Reader here.

How do I save the nomination form?

To save the form:

  1. Select ‘File’ from menu bar on the top left of your screen
  2. Click on ‘Save As’
  3. Select a location on your computer to save your nomination form

Make sure you save your nomination form every time you edit to ensure you don’t lose any of your work!

I’ve nominated a group. Which age option do I choose?

Choose the option that reflects the average age of the group members.

I’m not sure which award category best fits my nomination?

You can nominate in more than one award category if you feel this is appropriate.

I’d like to provide more information to support my nomination, how do I do this?

On page 7 of the nomination form there is an ‘Anything else?’ section where you can provide supporting information such as website links, video links and photos etc.  You can send photos or hard copies of  information by email or post.  You must make sure that you clearly mark the name of the nominator and the award category in any communication to SCLD; please also state whether you would like any information you submit to be posted back to you.

When will I hear if my nomination has been successful?

Once the judging process is completed, SCLD will inform the nominator of the outcome.  We will contact the nominator during the week beginning 25th March 2019.

Can I nominate someone for the Learning Disability Awards who doesn’t live in Scotland?

No, to be eligible for nomination in Scotland’s Learning Disability Awards, the nominee must live in Scotland.
