Introducing: Lewis Sherlock

Hi!

My name is Lewis Sherlock, and I joined the SCLD Team in January 2025. My background is in theatre-making and performance, with a focus on working alongside individuals with learning disabilities. Recently, I’ve embarked on studying Dramatherapy, which has really benefited my role at SCLD and my broader interests. I’m thrilled to bring creative, person-centred approaches to the team.

In my theatre work, I’ve often created accessible, free-to-attend, outdoor performances designed to meet audiences where they are—sometimes quite literally, as they go about their daily lives. For instance, I’d often dress up in costume to make it clear it was a performance, using humour as a way to communicate meaningful messages.

I’m particularly passionate about language and how we communicate. As someone currently seeking an autism diagnosis, I sometimes struggle with complicated language and enjoy exploring creative ways to convey meaning. In one of my shows, The Good, The Bad, and The Poultry—a Chicken Cowboy Western—our cast used chicken noises, gestures, and music to tell an epic story. And yes, I absolutely love a good pun.

In my spare time, I enjoy watching TV, listening to music, and learning new things.

Since joining SCLD, I’ve spent time meeting the team, learning about their projects, and participating in training sessions. I’m particularly excited about contributing to an upcoming collaboration with Museums and Galleries Scotland, currently in its first phase, and seeing how we can make a positive impact together.
