Introducing: James Innes, Project Advisor

Iain GillonSCLD Publication

Hello, my name is James and I’m one of the Project Advisors at SCLD. To date, I am their newest recruit, having started on the 2nd of December, 2024.

Before joining SCLD, I was a Primary School Teacher in Edinburgh for 5 years. My favourite part of the role was building positive relationships, supporting pupils to lead their learning and meeting the need in my class. This involved changing the space and discussing activities to make both accessible and inclusive for all.

When I saw this role advertised at SCLD, I felt very fortunate; the skills and experience in my previous role matched that of Project Advisor. Helping others is my passion, and shifting the power balance so it is shared is something I’m well trained in!

Changing careers was a big deal, but thanks to the support from SCLD it has been smooth. I loved my interview, and the warmth I got from the panel put me at ease.

If a plant has the right conditions and environment, it will grow. This is how I feel working for SCLD.

I have lots of hobbies and interests that I enjoy in my spare time. I like to keep fit, so running outdoors if it is sunny has become part of my exercise routine.

My indoor hobbies include watering my plants, entertaining my dog, Bella, and reading books in the study. In this space, I make art and write stories too.

I look forward to seeing where my journey at SCLD takes me and I am excited to work on many projects.
