In 2016, on behalf of the Scottish Government, SCLD commissioned the University of Glasgow TERU and Cambridge Policy Consultants to conduct a scoping exercise to map the employability landscape for people with learning disabilities in Scotland.
On 7 February 2017, the first meeting of the SCLD Employment Task Group, who will be taking the reports recommendations forward, was held at Glasgow Caledonian University. The meeting was opened by Ms Maureen Watt MSP Minister for Mental Health and Chaired by Mr Jim Mc Cormick from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
The Minister voiced her support for the work of the Task Group and was pleased that she would be kept informed of progress over the next 12 months.
The meeting was addressed by Professor Alan McGregor of TERU at Glasgow University the author of the research report: ‘Mapping the Employability Landscape for people with a Learning Disability in Scotland‘.
Professor McGregor summarised the findings of the research and highlighted the priorities and recommendations to be taken forward by the Task Group.
