Adults With Incapacity Act Consultation
SCLD has submitted our response to the Adults with Incapacity Amendment Act Consultation. This was informed by two seminars we held in August and September with people with learning disabilities, their families and carers and other stakeholders.
SCLD broadly supports the Scottish Government’s proposals to update the Adults with Incapacity Act but we believe much greater change is required to respect and protect the human rights of people with learning disabilities.
We would like to see a right for people with learning disabilities to access support for decision making alongside a well-resourced Supported Decision-Making framework for Scotland.
We also believe that Scotland’s guardianship system needs reformed to meet international human rights standards and empower people with learning disabilities to have more autonomy and enjoy greater choice and control.
SCLD believes the need for change is urgent and we are committed to continuing to work with people with learning disabilities, wider stakeholders and the Scottish Government to deliver transformational change for people with learning disabilities, whose rights are most at risk.
