EDIP ProjectThe Equality and Diversity Programme on behalf of NHS Scotland wanted to find out what people with learning disabilities and family carers thought about giving more personal information. This was to try to make sure that the NHS provides an equally good service to everyone.
SCLD gave expert advice to staff on how to work well with people with learning disabilities and helped to make written and visual materials more accessible. SCLD also arranged consultation events with established groups and helped to facilitate these events. We then wrote a report which summarised all the findings.
Read the report here. The document is very big. If you have trouble downloading it and would like to request a paper copy please contact the SCLD office.
Perth & Kinross Council - Best Value ReviewWe helped Perth and Kinross Council with their Best Value Review of Learning Disability Services. We held a number of consultation events to find out what people who use services and family carers thought of their learning disability services. The Council’s Best Value Review Team used our report to help them think how they could change their services to make sure that they don’t waste money, but instead spend it on services that really help people to live the lives they want to live.
If you would like to get a DVD about the Review you can email Charlie Collie CCollie@pkc.gov.uk You can do it DVD"You can do it" is a DVD about how people with learning disabilities can get active. This DVD was funded by West Glasgow Community Health and Care Partnership. SCLD worked with Glasgow Disability Sports Team to produce the DVD. If you would like to request a copy of the "You can do it" DVD please contact the SCLD office. Watch the trailer of the DVD.
Self-Directed Support DVD for people with learning disabilitiesSCLD are making a short DVD which will provide a lively introduction to self-directed support for people with learning disabilities. The DVD will explain “What is self-directed support?” and cover some frequently asked questions.
We held a consultation event to find out what people with learning disabilities and their families needed to know about self-directed support. 10 people who had a learning disability or who were a family carer attended the event and all had different levels of experience of self-directed support. These people are going to tell their stories about self-directed support in the DVD so they can share their experiences with other people with learning disabilities and their families.
We hope that the self-directed support DVD will be finished in April 2009. You will be able to watch the trailer here soon. To find out more about self-directed support go to |
