Site Help
The SCLD website features a number of multimedia elements designed to benefit its usability and accessibility. Functions such as the text-to-speech options, text resizing, high-contrast style, video and audio content content may require the installation of the free Adobe Flash Player, and the activation of JavaScript in your web browser (see below for more deatils).
Documents available for download from this site in PDF format may also require the use of the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Text Resizing
This website includes a feature that allows visitors to set their preferred size for most of the text on each page. These 'display options' (above) allow the choice of three different text sizes: medium (which is the default), larger and largest. Note that this function requires JavaScript to be activated in your browser, and the buttons may not be visible if JavaScript is switched off.
In addition to the text resizing buttons above, all web browsers have some built-in provision for altering the size of text on screen. In nearly all modern browsers this is most easily achieved by pressing CONTROL (CMD for Mac) and '+' (plus) to zoom in, CONTROL and '-' (minus) to zoom out – CONTROL and '0' (zero) will reset to the default size. This method has the advantage that most modern browsers will increase the size of all content, including images and movies, along with the text.
Alternatively it should be possible to select ‘View / Text Size’ (‘View / Zoom’ in Opera) from the menubar and increase/decrease the size of the text from there. For Internet Explorer version 6 or below you may first need to disable style sheets, to do so follow these directions:
- From the Menu Bar select ‘Tools / Internet Options’
- Select the ‘General’ tab and click the box entitled ‘Accessibility’
- Ensure that the three buttons under ‘Formatting’ are checked
- Click OK in ‘Accessibility’ dialog box
- Click OK in ‘Internet Options’ dialog box
- Click ‘Refresh’.
High-contrast style
The SCLD website offers an alternative, high-contrast style for the benefit of those with specific visual needs. Switching to this style is achieved via the appropriate button under the 'display options' heading (above). This button will toggle (activate/deactivate) the high-contrast style.
Note that it is possible to use the text resizing buttons in conjunction with the high-contrast style to further modify the visual presentation, should you require to do so.
