SCLD Chief Executive, Chris CreeganThe Scottish Consortium for Learning Disability (SCLD) is pleased to announce that Chris Creegan has been appointed the charity’s new Chief Executive.  Chris will be taking up his post on 10 June and everyone involved with SCLD on the Board and the staff team are very much looking forward to welcoming him to the organisation.

SCLD is delighted to announce that Learning Disability Week is taking place between 17th and 24th June.  This year we will be focusing on welfare reform and what people with learning disabilities and their families need to know about how things are changing.

SCLD are pleased to bring you a series of free bite sized events on topics relevant to the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families. These 2 hour sessions will take place in SCLD's offices between 10am - 12 noon. All of the events are free of charge.

 

The first session is called Learning Disability and the Law and will be delivered by Nicola Smith from Cairn Trust Management....

Dorothy Atkinson and Mabel CooperSCLD is sad to share the news that the renowned self advocate, Mabel Cooper has passed away at the age of 68.  Mabel was extremely well known among the self-advocacy movement and contributed much to capturing the social history of people with learning disabilities.  She had her life story published to much acclaim in 'Forgotten Lives' in 1997 and gave keynote addresses to many conferences and...

We would like to set up a reference group of people with learning disabilities to talk about human rights.

The group will also have the job of telling two very important organisations about what they think.
One organisation is called the Scottish Human Rights Commission. They are in charge of making sure that all people in Scotland have their human rights.

We have some important news to share about SCLD’s Director, Dr Lisa Curtice. After almost 12 years leading SCLD, Lisa is moving on to a brand new job as Programme Director for People Powered Health and Wellbeing with the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE).
