This interactive 2 day course will enable participants to develop their understanding of and skills in support planning. By working together, participants will develop their knowledge of a range of tools and resources that can be helpful when working with people to develop their support plans.
By the end of the 2 day course, participants will have:
- A clear understanding of the history and context of the self directed support agenda and the fundamental role of the support plan in that process.
- A clear understanding of the seven essential criteria required in a support plan.
- Been introduced to the Support Planning Graphic and other tools to aid the development of support plans.
- Explored the roles and responsibilities of the support planner
This 2 day course is facilitated by Louise Close of Helen Sanderson Associates. It will be particularly useful for those people who may be asked to support a person in writing their plan or develop a support plan on behalf of a person.
There is no cost to getting involved with this training which has been very positively received by previous participants. It is being funded through a grant received from Scottish Government to develop provider capacity and innovation in relation to self directed support and is a ‘taster’ for future events which will be delivered under the ‘Changing Support, Changing Lives’ consortium.
Please note: There is a limit of two places per organisation and, although places are free, there will be a £25 administration charge for cancellation of places with less than seven days notice.

This is a two day facilitated programme to support you in checking your progress in delivering personalised services.
Purpose: To assess provider organisation’s readiness for SDS, ascertain what needs to change in order to deliver care and support to people holding individual budgets, and to action plan next steps for implementation. This simple self assessment tool has been developed by providers and commissioners to help providers think about their progress in responding to the personalisation and self-directed support agenda.
Aimed at:
- Provider organisations supporting anyone who uses social care
- Senior managers and staff across the organisation, or in specific departmental or geographical areas
Learning Points:
The self assessment tool is divided into eight sections and each section represents a key area of change and development for providers as they deliver increasingly personalised services. The areas identified were developed by working with providers who have already made significant progress, and by asking them what they had needed to change.
Key objectives:
1. Leadership and strategy
2. Creating a person-centred culture
3. Community focus
4. Support planning and review
5. Finance
6. Human resources
7. Marketing
8. Reviewing and improving our serviceYou can book a place through the Changing Support, Changing Lives website here...
