Keith Smith

“People wiTrustee Keith Smithth learning disabilities need lives, not services”, says Keith Smith, Chief Executive of the British Institute of Learning Disabilities since 2005, “They have so much to contribute if we could just listen and provide the support they need.  At BILD we understand that providing good support doesn’t just ‘happen’, it’s difficult to get right; you have to work hard at it and put people with a learning disability at the centre of that work.”
Keith has been working with people with learning disabilities for over 25 years and managing change has been a consistent theme. Throughout his considerable experience in planning and commissioning of services, including modernizing day services and developing self-advocacy groups in Coventry, as well as managing residential care and supported living provision at People in Action in Warwickshire, he has worked to make change happen, “and wherever I’ve worked we’ve started listening to people more."
